    SA Tribune Blockade Continues

    Dear Readers:

The blockade of South Asia Tribune web site continues in Pakistan although the action has been widely condemned by the Press, international organizations including Reporters Sans Frontieres in Paris and major political parties. Information Ministry officials have yet again made meaningless statements denying the blockade. It seems they no longer care for their credibility and want to keep their master happy. But SA Tribune viewers are able to visit the web site through other means hence the blockade is, in essence, ineffective.

In Pakistan the major story was the failure of Gen.l Pervez Musharraf to formally address the joint session of the Parliament, fearing the Opposition protest. In turn united Opposition partis did allow his Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz to present the budget in the Lower House, though amid loud shouting and yelling. The message was clear. It was the Opposition calling the shots and not otherwise. We will cover the Budget story as much as possible in this issue.

    Take care

    Shaheen Sehbai
